Munich Kyiv Cabaret: This is edition XXL

Our charity drag show is back – this time in an oversized version. Ten drag artists, burlesque stars and well-known singers will be performing for a good cause at the Drehleier Theatre on 2 November. They are all waiving their fees; the ticket prices will benefit queer war victims in Ukraine. The show starts at 8 pm. Get your tickets now

Munich’s burlesque star Ruby Tuesday and Bavaria’s first and only Ukrainian drag queen Samantha Jackson present artists from Germany, Belgium, France and Ukraine. They have all come together to support LGBTIQ* in and from Ukraine with an entertaining cabaret evening – you know the drill. Expect an extravagant show with drag, music, burlesque and comedy.

But first things first. Let’s start by introducing our hosts.

Our hosts

The enfant terrible of Germany’s burlesque scene, Ruby Tuesday , makes things very hot on stage in every respect. Ruby Tuesday has been performing across Europe as a neo-burlesque performer for years. This art form not only allows performers to play with femininity and sensuality in a creative and humorous way, but also questions social norms.

Her versatility allows Ruby to slip into many roles: she plays the fluffy bunny just as convincingly as the masculine ‘Ruben Tuesday’ – Ruby was Munich’s first drag king.

Ukrainian drag ambassador Samantha Jackson from Odesa has a big stage presence, a big heart and an even bigger voice. Everything about her is big. Above all, the longing for her old homeland, which she had to leave because of the war.

You can feel the love for her country in every note of her songs. She stands up for freedom, for equality. And Samantha can bring all her artistic skill to bear in this cause, because her singing is incredibly versatile. She masters opera, pop, jazz, rock and other musical genres. Samantha says: “All people in this world deserve to be free to choose who they love and be who they are.”

Samantha Jackson came to Munich two years ago as a refugee from Ukraine. She is now travelling all over Europe with her drag show. She will be performing her first solo act at the Drehleier on 16 December.

And these artists will be performing in our show:

Our acts

The charming Vicky Voyage is always worth a trip. Vicky takes her audience on a joyride through the world of drag art. As an international performer, presenter and entertainer, she presents her shows with extravagant outfits and amazing make-ups with charisma, humour and lots of esprit. We know her as a dazzling butterfly, a brilliant fire fairy, a snow queen shrouded in legend and a loving local heroine in a dirndl. And she can pole dance too!

Bibi Lebon can simply do everything. He is closely associated with the Ghent burlesque group Cabaret Cuberdon in Belgium and owns his own theatre company: Goodone Productions. He teaches dance and theatre workshops at the Kopergietery and Shoonya Dance and has developed his own dance style: the Cissy Ball.

Bibi choreographs and performs as a silks acrobat solo or together with the Vilja Duo. He appeared in the television series LISA as Inspector Van Hecke; he is an actor and model. He creates shows for himself and others (such as ‘Venus in Libra’).

Bibi tours the world, combining all these disciplines. He also trains people in circus, music, singing and theatre. His motto: “Creating daily life miracles.”

Miss Tizzy & Merritt

Miss Tizzy is a monster drag queen. This style is still quite young in drag culture, but is becoming increasingly popular. It combines a wide variety of styles: camp, horror, glamour, disgust, fetish, burlesque and much more. Miss Tizzy enters the stage as a fictional being characterised by fears and struggles.

She protests against reality, beauty standards and social norms. Tizzy lives in Paris. Her favourite colour: green.

Merritt Ocracy is Munich’s Ukrainian drag quing. A faerie harlequin, a vintage prince of mischievous abysses, a crossover chameleon that flies through space and time and has landed on stage from somewhere in outer space. Merritt says: “Gender is a construct, build your own.”

Xeni, Perry, Iris and our mystery act

Xeni Slay Your favourite Ukrainian demon that will leave you paralysed. Xeni flies in from Düsseldorf, where she organises many events for queer migrants, such as the show “Beyond Borders”. Get ready for breathtaking acrobatics with a good dose of slay and clowning! Xeni’s performances are a unique blend of her Ukrainian heritage and her circus background. She’s ready to slay!

Perry Stroika does strange things and rhinestones his underwear. Aesthetically, the Munich based drag king finds himself stuck in-between being camp and a campsite owner. In his performances, he likes to show people the silly side of masculinity.

Iris White is a singer, DJ and songwriter from Ternopil, Ukraine. She had to leave her home because of the war and is now trying to build a new life in Munich. She doesn’t speak much, but when she raps, it seems as if she has much more to say to the world. Her music is touching.

And finally, we welcome a pop star who has already eroticised entire halls with his voice and ecstatic moves. We can’t reveal the name of our mystery act at this point. Just this much: he is a big name in Ukraine.

This is how you can donate

INDIVIDUAL HELP Munich Kyiv Queer has its own fundraising campaign via https://www.paypal.me/ConradBreyer to support queer people in Ukraine who are in need or on the run. Why? Because not all LGBTIQ* are organised in the local LGBTIQ*-groups. This help is direct, fast and free of charge if you choose the option “For friends and family” on PayPal. If you don’t have PayPal, you can alternatively send money to the private account of Conrad Breyer, speaker of Munich Kyiv Queer, IBAN: DE427015000021121454.

All requests from the community are meticulously checked in cooperation with our partner organisations in Ukraine. If they can help themselves, they take over. If the demands for help exceed their (financial and/or material) possibilities, we will step in.

HELP FOR LGBTIQ* ORGANISATIONS To support LGBTIQ* in Ukraine we have helped set up the Alliance Queer Emergency Aid Ukraine, in which around 40 German LGBTIQ* Human Rights organisations are involved. All these groups have access to very different Human Rights organisations in Ukraine and use funds for urgently needed care or evacuation of queer people. Every donation helps and is used 100 percent to benefit queer people in Ukraine. Donate here
